Vegan Cupcake Domination on Tonight’s Episode of ‘Cupcake Wars’ on the Food Network

Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World –the infamous vegan baking tome by goddesses Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero – prophesied a dessert revolution. Vegan bakeries, including NYC’s legendary BabyCakes, and vegan cupcake boutiques popped up all over the country. And TONIGHT (3/4) at 8pm, Food Network airs a brand new episode of Cupcake Wars…and it’s a vegan bake-off! Vegan baking domination may indeed have arrived.

I’m so freaking excited! According to Food Network’s site, “in the first ever Cupcake Wars all-vegan showdown, four vegan bakers fight to have their cupcakes at the opening day celebration for the inaugural Los Angeles Green Festival.” Food Network has never had a completely vegan or even vegetarian cooking show. So it’s nice to see that they’re at least showcasing vegan bakers.

If you watch the show, are a vegan foodie, or just have a serious sweet-tooth, you probably know talented vegan bakers Chloe Coscarelli and Doron Petersan, owner of Sticky Fingers Bakery in DC, won when they competed on Cupcake Wars against vegan (Doron beat out fab vegan baker Kim Garr of C’est La V) and non-vegan bakers.

So what were the delicious flavors that enticed the judges? Chloe baked: Ginger Nutmeg Spice with Date Caramel Drizzle, Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake, Crème-filled Chocolate Orange with Candied Orange Peel, and Raspberry Tiramisu cupcakes. Doron baked: Chocolate Seltzer with Ganache and Banana Crème Frosting, Ginger with Brandy-Peach Filling and Blueberry Frosting, Vanilla with Kiwi-Curd Filling and Strawberry Frosting and Rum, and Chocolate Cinnamon with Bourbon Caramel Filling and Bourbon Vanilla Frosting. Doran won a second time on Cupcake Wars during its “All-Stars” Challenge. She baked cupcake flavors including Brown Sugar with Rum Frosting and Brown-Sugar Brittle and Chocolate Bourbon with Smoked Pepper, Salted Caramel and Vanilla Frosting.

These sound divinely decadent. I’m seriously drooling just reading these flavors my fingers typed! I’m dying to know what ingredient combinations tonight’s vegan bakers will concoct.

It’s fantastic for us vegans to see our lifestyle and philosophy represented on TV. But it’s also great for non-vegans to see that a vegan diet doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice indulgent flavor. Delectable cupcakes AND a clear conscience?? That’s a win-win in my book!
