So I wanted to let you all know where I am this week. If you follow me on Twitter (and all of you should damnit!!) then you know I’m in my FAVE city in the world…yep NYC at Soapbox Feminist Winter Term, a weeklong workshop hosted by the feminist goddesses Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards. Not only are they kickass authors (Manifesta, Grassroots), but they are two of the sweetest, most generous people I’ve ever met. I’ll be blogging about all of its fabulousness next week. What’s that you say…you just can’t wait?? Well, I’ll give you a sneak preview…
Each day, we’ve had workshops on various feminist topics: sex and sex work, media, professional development, reproductive justice, body awareness. We’ve visited organizations like the Sex Workers Project, Novo Foundation, Bust Magazine (one of my fave mags…AND we saw a sneak peek at next month’s issue!!), Feminist Press and the Ms. Foundation, where I did a half-day internship. But the best part has been meeting AMAZING feminist rock stars like Vanessa Valenti (Feministing), Miriam Perez (Feministing), articulate Jodi Kantor (NY Times), all-around badass Ariel Levy (Female Chauvinist Pigs), hilarious and inspiring Latoya Peterson (Racialicious), activist Steph Herold (I Am Dr. Tiller, Abortion Gang) who seriously doesn’t know just how awesome she is and legendary Shelby Knox (Education of Shelby Knox) who gives the best hugs. Meeting feminist icons…is this seriously my life???
