The Opinioness of the World is a feminist vegan blog covering issues and topics including gender, media, film, current events, food, body image, animal rights, food justice, politics and reproductive justice.
Founded in 2010 by a life-long feminist (although she didn’t know it until college!) and a vegan for over 6 years, The Opinioness wanted to discuss, analyze and share her opinions on gender equality and living cruelty-free.
While the blogosphere contains a plethora of fierce feminist blogs and inspiring vegan blogs, The Opinioness found almost no blogs that explored both. As a feminist vegan, she couldn’t separate her two identities. Feminism and veganism intersect — and often overlap — as both advocate freedom from oppression and exploitation.
Feminism means gender equality — in reproductive rights (unencumbered access to abortion and birth control), equal pay, equal rights for LGBTQ, legal protection for domestic violence, rape and sexual assault survivors — freedom from sexism and misogyny (the media objectifies and polices women’s bodies, victim-blames survivors, and perpetuates tired gender tropes), and working towards an anti-oppression framework of social justice. We need to obliterate sexism, racism, classism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, speciesism…and all other -isms.
Vegans align their actions with their belief that believes humans should not consume animals for ease, gain or benefit and that animals have a right to live freely, to not suffer and to not be exploited. Vegans don’t eat any meat (including chicken or seafood), dairy (including eggs, milk, butter, cheese) or animal byproducts (honey, gelatin). Living cruelty-free, vegans don’t wear clothing containing wool or silk and don’t use beauty products with any animal ingredients or that have been tested on animals.
Here you’ll find:
- Reviews of film, TV and media from the lens of feminism or veganism
- Vegan recipes, food and restaurant reviews
- Opinions and articles on everything in the feminist vegan spectrum (feminism and pop culture, gender and sexism in the media, reproductive justice, women in politics, LGBTQ rights, animal rights, vegans in the media, vegan tips and myths, and the intersection of gender and food)
Whether you call yourself a feminist, a vegan, a feminist vegan, an ally or if you’re just curious, it’s time to kick ass and make this a more equitable, compassionate and fabulous place.

Megan, as you know, i’ve nurtured & cared for you, ever since the first day we crossed paths at that book store that isn’t “Borders.”
Although, some would probablly consider me a mentor, i like to think that i was much more than that:
Possibly, a “Guiding light” or “Guardian Angel,” of sorts.
Regardless, my impact upon you was immeasurable.
And, now….
All these years later, here you are!
The Opinoness of the World, penning a blog, the only blog that matters.
I’m so proud of you.
But most importantly, i’m proud of myself.
Thank you all for your thoughtful, kind and hilarious (yes, Julian…I’m talking to you!) words. I truly appreciate all the support!!
im doing a school paper where i have to pic a topic and expose the wrongs of a company. i chose the fur trade as my topic. my teacher told me to narrow it to one company that sells real fur. im having trouble deciding which company to expose. could you help me?
Hi Emma, I’d be happy to help! Do you want to write about a furrier (a store that sells and tailors fur) or a couture fashion designer creating fur? If you want to write about a furrier, you could try Henry Cowit, Inc. in NYC labeled “NY’s Fur Supermarket.” http://www.cowitfurs.com/ You could also check out fur salons in department stores like Bloomingdales and Saks.
If you’d prefer to write about a designer, here’s a list of many who use fur in their collections: http://www.nycanimalrights.com/Designers%20That%20Use%20Fur.htm
You can also check out my blog post on the documentary ‘Skin Trade’ for more information on fur in the fashion industry. https://opinionessoftheworld.com/2010/08/12/the-devil-wears-fur-and-prada-documentary-skin-trade-exposes-truth-about-fur-in-fashion/
Let me know if I can be of further help!
I ended up exposing Burberry. your list and the information you gave me was very helpful. i also wrote how they use raccoon dog fur and of chinese furfarms. everyone in my class was very impressed. (except some of the boys who dont care about animals) thank you very much for your help.
